Patterned, woven, rectangular mat with a square weave in a small alternating checkered pattern of natural and dyed brown grass. Long-side borders are made of the undyed grass in a square weave that tightens into a thin strip of herringbone pattern at edges. A looped fringe of alternating black and yellow yarn is woven into all four edges. The backside of the mat is monotone.

The edges are finished by folding over each piece of grass, creating a line of small points along the long sides of the mat. These pieces are then woven into the pattern on the back, creating a distinguishable border.
Basket in an open weave. Basket has a rectangular base, widening toward the mouth where the rim bends inward. The handle is thick and robustly woven, standing firm above the centre of the basket. It divides into two arms on each side which attach at the corners of the basket and are woven decoratively into the body and across the base. Each side of the basket has a checked decoration in red grass at centre.

Set of five costume bells. Parts d, e, and f are iron cow bells with wood clappers. Each has a wide top loop that connects it to its leather strap. Part d has a brass buckle in a chevron in shape, with a single remaining prong. Silver metal studs secure the strap’s loop, 3 both above and below the buckle. Part e has a square buckle square made of iron wire. Several belt holes are pierced into the strap, and two rusted studs hold it together at back. Part f has a wide leather strap, dark brown-yellow in colour. Its oval buckle with a central prong is made of thin metal wire. Three belt holes pierce the leather. Parts g and h are identical: each has a small brass bell, wider at base, with brass clappers. They are attached by a leather thong to a large, wide strap. Small, square brass buckles with a central prong close belt at front and back. The ends of the belt are cut into three wide fringes, with the central feeding into the buckles. Brass studs decorate the belt front and back above the buckles. (Also, see mask: 2956/202 a, and costume: 2956/202 b-c.)
Pair of costume bells on braided loops. Each round bell is shiny brass and flared at the bottom, with decorative rings carved on the outside. The clapper is a round brass ball attached on the inside by a thin metal hook. Each bell hangs by a steel loop on a thick cord of braided yellow synthetic fibre with red accents. The cord ends are unsealed and frayed. (Also, see mask: 2956/201 a, and costume: 2956/201 b-d.)
Rattle shows five people (angels?) dressed in white robes cinched with red wool belts. Two also wear woolen skirts in red, blue, green, and white stripes with a shoulder sash. Each figure has short brown hair with a blue ribbon, a pink face, and stitched-on features in black thread. Each is connected to a small, round, two piece, unpainted wooden clapper. Bottle caps are attached to the bottom of the rattle’s cross shaped platform in pairs. The long handle protrudes from the bottom of the platform and is made of wood and metal, decorated with plastic tape in red and white.
Small carving of a polar bear and seal (part a). The bear stands on four legs in a wide stance, with a small carved tail at back, protruding ears atop the head, and engraved eyes and mouth on its face. The bear is consuming the seal, whose head disappears into the bear’s open mouth. The seal has two protruding fore flippers and one extended rear flipper. The other rear flipper is missing. A short wooden dowel is inserted into the stomach and held by adhesive, behind a small bored hole. Two black dots are painted on the stomach near the dowel. The stand (part b) is thin and flat, curves slightly to the left, and is also made of tusk. Through one end are bored two holes, one of which has been filled with adhesive and the other of which fits the wooden dowel of the seal. On the top near the centre, four dents have been carved to hold the feet of the bear. Adhesive fills the back two.
This sculpture of blown and sand-carved glass is red and black, the two signature colors for Northwest Coast art. It represents a killer whale, one of the crest designs of Tlingit artist Preston Singletary. It is made using traditional form-line designs with black forming the positive, primary spaces and red forming the negative, secondary spaces. The whale is arched, with flippers and tail fins down and dorsal fin up. It is in excellent condition.
Red felt bag with a long fringe. The bag is round at bottom, with straight sides and top, and a long handle. Handle and felt embellishments on bag are in black felt. On the front are four 6-petal flowers made from moose hair tufting, dyed red, purple and yellow and interspersed with green leaves of the same material. A strand of twisted grey hair makes a circle under the flowers and leaves. On the bag’s edges is sewn a thick fringe of deer skin. The interior of the bag is lined with cotton in a small floral pattern. The closure sits at the centre of the bag’s opening, and is a strip of black felt with a metal snap.
