Jacket2902/106

Large long dark blue jacket with open front. Collar is long and extends down to jacket waist and has a pink wool trim around white and blue embroidery with snowflake designs. There are two light brown stripes on the ends of the sleeves and white, red and yellow snowflake embroidery on the front and back of the shoulders. The sides are slit up to the waist and the tops of the slits have tassels with beads and dark red wool. The neck of the collar has a red applique with snowflake embroidery.

Large long dark blue jacket with open front. Collar is long and extends down to jacket waist and has a red wool trim around white and blue embroidery with snowflake designs. Jacket has light blue trim on the edges and two light blue stripes on the ends of the sleeves. There is white, green, red and yellow snowflake embroidery on the bottom of the back of the jacket and on the shoulders. The sides are slit up to the waist and the tops of the slits have tassels with beads and red wool. The neck of the collar also has strings of beads with red tassles which hang down the back of the jacket.

Vest2902/108

Square dark blue vest with open front and slit sleeves. Collar has stitched lines in white, pink and green with embroidered tassle designs on the bottom. The right side of vest has a small square applique slightly darker than the rest of the vest. Bottom of vest has six thin horizontal lines of colourful embroidery. Sleeves have red and blue trim, and sides of vest are embellished with four shells on either side. Back of vest has a white appliqued band along the centre with green and pink embroidery. Above the band is a flag(?) composed of white, red, and yellow-orange. Below the band are eight thin horizontal lines of muti-coloured embroidery, embellished with three vertical columns of white buttons with pink stitching.

Short black jacket with rectangular collar that hangs down the back of the neck. Collar has an intricate black and white geometric pattern with green and pink embroidery, and red trim. Front of jacket is open and has striped red and blue edging along the front flaps. Scales2902/1 a-c

Pear shaped wooden opium scales with long dowel-like neck and spherical end. A braided fibre ring fits around the neck. Object is cut in half widthwise and, pivoting on a bolt fixed through the end of the neck, slides open. Revealed in its inner cavities are a shallow, circular metal dish, a small rectangular piece of flint(?) and a long, cylindrical bone stick all tied with brown, black and pink string. The bone stick is covered in black dots arranged in a linear pattern.

Roof Cross2903/84

Tin roof cross with various figures adorning it. At the bottom of the front of the cross there is a blue flower with petals that are bent upwards. The flower has white dots in its centre. Emerging from the back of this flower are a spear and a rounded object on the end of a pole. The rounded object on the end of a pole is on the left side of the object; it is a different shade of blue than the rest of the object. An angel in profile holds onto this pole. The angel is primarily white with a red eye and sash. The spear emerges from the right side of the flower. It is green. There is a blue fish attached to the pole of the spear. The fish has a red eye and a band of red dots around it. In the centre of this configuration of poles and figures, there is a skull. The skull is white with red eyes, nostrils and mouth. Further up the pole, there is a blue cup formed by three rounded shapes. At the top of the cup, there is a rectangular piece of tin with equidistant circles cut into it mounted horizontally across the vertical axis of the cross. Above this piece, there is a red pot. A flower or sun shape with five rays emerges from the top of the pot. The centre ray is white while the two on either side are red. The bottom rays rest on the horizontal axis of the cross. Also resting on this axis are a moon, rooster and flower. The moon is a crescent shape with a large nose and a red eye. It is painted white. To the right of the red pot, the rooster sits on the horizontal axis. The rooster is primarily white and it has red detailing around its wing, a red eye, red ear and red wattle. The flower is also on the right side of the axis; it is pink with white dots in its centre. At the very top of the cross, there is a duck in a sitting position. It is primarily white with a red eye. The duck’s body faces right but its head is turned leftward. Behind the red pot, there is a brown piece of string tied to the vertical support of the cross.

Wedding Panel2903/83

Embroidered wedding textile with four scenes stacked vertically. The central images are surrounded by two borders. At the top of the textile, there is a large bird with its wings spread wide. In the background, there are light and dark green plants and a sloping branch in the lower left corner of the bird’s section of the panel. Separating the top panel from the next, there is an orange line followed by a purple line. Underneath the purple line, the word ‘matrimonio’ is written in pink lettering. The word is flanked on either side by red and white flags. The word ‘matrimonio’ seems to sit on top of a structure in which four people are sitting. The structure has a black outline and the walls have an inner blue outline surrounding orange geometric designs. The bottom of the structure is denoted by a wavy pink line and a geometric blue line. Two of the four people sitting in the house are men and two are women. Standing on the outside of the house, on the left side, there is a barefoot man with his arms upraised. There is a pink squiggly line on the left side of the man and a purple squiggly line on the right. Also, there is a green leafy plant on the ground between his legs. On the opposite side of the house, there is a woman whose arms are also upraised. In between the woman’s body and the building, there is a squiggly pink line. There is a green leafy plant on the ground between her legs. The scene is separated from the one below it by a pink line followed by an orange line. In the scene below there are two men and two women that appear to be dancing. Each person in this panel has a squiggly line on either side of them. The first woman has a purple and a pink line. Below her skirt, on the left side of the image, there is a green leafy plant. The next person to the right of the woman is a man with a blue line and an orange line around him. Also there is a green leafy plant on the ground between his legs. To his right is a woman wearing a shirt, hat, skirt and sandals. She is surrounded by a purple and orange line. Behind her left foot, there is a green leafy plant. Also, in front of her right foot, there is another green leafy plant in a darker shade. To her right is a man in a hat, shirt, pants and sandals. He has a purple line on his left and a pink line on his right. There is a green leafy plant between his legs. This section is separated from the one below by a pink line followed by a purple line. In the bottom section of the panel, there is a scene with a man and woman fishing. The woman is on the left side in a brown boat. Attached to the purple fishing line that the woman is holding is a large brown fish. She is on the far right side of her boat and behind her, on the left side, there is a blue squiggly line and a triangular structure formed out of five lines. The lines are black, red, orange and light orange. To the left of the triangular structure, there is a dark green leafy plant. Below her boat, there is a pink fish, more leafy plants and blue squiggly lines to represent water. On the right side of the panel, the man kneels in a pink and orange boat. The purple fishing line that the man holds is attached to a pink fish. There is a green leafy plant in front of the man, on the right side of the panel. Behind the man there are two blue squiggly lines contained by an orange curved line and a black curved line. On the left of this structure, there is an oval structure. It is outlined in black and has a black line through the centre. There are two curved brown lines within the structure. On the far left end of the man’s boat there is another green leafy plant. In the top left and right corners of the textile, there are looped bunches of red and black thread.

Apron2902/112

Long rectangular apron with long thin ties with yellow flower patterns. Apron has blue band at the top and a pink border with white roped embroidery. White embroidery has two pieces of multi-coloured plastic(?) ribbon threaded through it. Centre of apron is black and has pink and white starburst appliques surrounding a large zigzag applique with embroidered geometric diamond and starburst patterns. Back of apron is black.
