Effigy Figure3275/7 a-c

Wooden male figure in standing position, with two large, flat feet, its knees slightly bent. Head is large with a carefully carved face. Mouth is a thin line, a small nose protrudes above, eyes are almond shaped and made of bone with a small hole carved at centre. Ears have two anterior curls, and have remnants of blue paint at back. Upper arms hang at sides, with forearms and hands (parts b and c) separate pieces that attach at elbows to allow positioning at an upward angle. A loin cloth is wrapped around figure’s waist, mainly brown-grey in colour with a stripe of orange around the waistband. Cloth covers a prominent phallus.

Painting on paper. On a light yellow background stands a large bird facing front, wings outstretched and curving above its head. Bird looks to the right, with head crest extending behind. A face covers the torso, with ovoid eyes and a wide mouth showing bared teeth. Wings are decorated in bright colours. Paper is corrugated along one edge.

Wildmans Red Cedarbark Mask Dance3278/2

Painting on paper. Five figures, all wearing large masks with long snouts and slightly open mouths, coloured black, red, green and yellow. Long capes of orange and yellow cedar bark fall from each mask, obscuring the figures beneath. The two front-most figures have yellow legs emerging from the cedar, with leg bands wrapped around their calves. Light yellow background.

Painted bark cloth. Large square of pounded bark cloth, divided by painted lines into four square sections. Each section has two animals, four shown horizontally, four vertically (six are fish or porpoises, two are waterfowl). The painted designs are faded. The piece has hanging holes in all four corners, two of which still have round brass rivets.

Food Cover3275/21

Food cover or table cloth. Square cloth is dark red, embroidered on one half of the diagonal with flower shapes, vines and leaves in colours of orange, dark pink, black and green. The adjacent edges hold long panels with matching squares of embroidery also in these colours. A thick fringe hangs from the bottom of the panels, each with a small white bead at the end. Underside of object is undecorated.

Carpet Beater3275/5

Beater used to push down weft during construction of a carpet. Implement is a large comb made of metal, tines long and triangular in profile, flat in width. They are melded together toward back, where comb is fitted at a 90 degree angle into the thick wooden handle.
