Finely woven circular basket with lid. The weave uses cedar bark and grass, in the technique known as wrapped twining. The decoration consists of circular bands in dark brown, red, yellow and cream. The rim of the basket is strengthened with a band of cedar bark, the base is more coarsely woven than the sides of the basket.; Good

Tlingit basket in poor state of preservation but an old specimen with native dyes , as the catalogue card states. The basket is finely woven from spruce root with a false embroidery design made from grass and possibly maidenhair fern. The design has two bands of red and dark greenish black pattern which is a variation on the butterfly pattern identified by Emmons (1903:263-277). The central band is composed of stepped cream and reddish brown lines. The basket has been stitched together.; Good

Five tightly woven burden baskets, of different sizes, with undulating rims woven with holes, and decorated with dark brown, red, yellow and cream imbricated designs. A) Medium sized with three V-shaped lined designs that have pale central section. B) Medium sized basket with three V- shaped designs descending from rim, with light central section, edged by reddish brown line, yellow line and bordered with dark brown stepped edge.C) Small sized basket with single and double diamond pattern descending from rim. Diamonds are alternately red and black with checkered appearance, the background is cream. D) Medium sized basket with banded V-shaped designs in yellow and dark brown, interspaced by elliptical designs edged with dark brown, yellow inside with a red centre. E) Large burden basket with joined V-shaped stripped design edged with red and dark brown stepped design. In the centre of the downward pointing V' s are small stripped yellow and black triangles. In the centre of the upward pointing V' s are dark brown, yellow and red diamonds. The overall background imbrication is cream, while the stripes are yellow. There are no leather thongs present on any of the baskets, which would have been used for carrying .; Good

Pipe1934.175 A

A wooden pipe carved into a killer whale with a brass bowl serving as its blow hole and its tail curving downwards as the mouthpiece. Underneath the tail a humanoid face has been carved which, together with the belly, mouth and side carvings has been painted red in the past. the eyes and mouth have been inlaid with abalone shell. Before contact with Europeans tobacco was mixed with lime and chewed rather than smoked, only after contact was tobacco smoked in pipes (G.Crowther).; Good

A panel pipe bearing numerous interconnected creatures. The creature which forms the mouthpiece is possibly humanoid with a long tongue extending between its knees. The second creature is possibly a bear which is biting the tail of a seal-like creature. The bowl of the pipe is formed from the body of a bird which is touching the neck of another bear-like creature which in turn is joining tongues with another bird. There is a rudimentary creature in the centre of the pole which, together with the last bird, has not been finished to the same extent as the other creatures.The panel pipe has been broken and repaired but is now in a very delicate condition.; Fair

A broken fragment of a panel pipe carved with representations of nonsensical creatures. The mouthpiece is possibly a bear with a bear cub underneath its chin. Both these creatures lack the usually characteristic teeth and rounded nostrils. The third creature is arch-winged, legged and clawed with round staring eyes and a hooked nose.; Good

This trade pipe has the bowl carved in the shape of a man' s head. It is possibly a European, given the evidence of the finely carved parted hair. A recumbent figure rests on a plinth along the stem of the pipe. This figure is genderless. The bowlof the pipe contains partially burnt matter, possibly tobacco. The stem is broken at the mouthpiece.; Good
