Unfinished Hat1593/21

Rectangular shaped unfinished woven wool hat with alternating figured stripes of birds, flowers and geometric shapes in cream with blue, pink, yellow and green detailing on a red ground. Defining the sections is a horizontal blue stripe. Intertwined in the incomplete top are three, long metal knitting needles.

Shirt1593/14

Cream wool shirt with a half collar and a v-shaped neck. The sleeves are wide then taper with pleats at the cuff; cuffs have a slit opening. The bottom edge is selvedge. There is a piece of twine attached to the inside seam of each cuff.

A loom (part a-d) with an unfinished woven wool textile consisting of white striped geometric pattern of circles, ovals and triangles on a dark green ground. The textile is attached to two large, cylindrical shaped wooden sticks (part a). Intertwined in the warp is one cylindrical shaped heddle covered in dark green twine; two bamboo sticks and three flat, rectangular battens with triangular, pointed ends (parts b,c,d).

Loom (part a-f) with an unfinished woven wool textile consisting of a two striped centre of brown and dark brown bordered with multiply stripes and patterns. Thin pink, black and red stripes border a line of red and blue lozenge pattern with yellow and orange detailing. A thick red stripe borders the textiles sides. The textile is attached to two large, cylindrical shaped wooden sticks; one at each end. Intertwine in the multi-coloured warp are six wooden tools: two heddle rods; three flat, rectangular battens with triangular, pointed ends (parts c,d,e) and a long cylindrical shed roll (part b). In a similar pattern to the weaving is a small, circular strap (part f).

Loom (part a-e) with an unfinished textile consisting of a zigzag and lozenge pattern in red, orange, purple, blue, green, pink and white with yellow borders on a red ground. The textile is attached to two large, cylindrical shaped wooden sticks; one at each end. Intertwine in the burgundy warp of the textile are seven wooden tools: two heddle rods; one bamboo stick; one flat, rectangular wood piece with triangular, pointed ends (part d) and three long cylindrical sticks of varying size (parts b, c, e).

Basket with cone-shaped wooden frame and woven sides. Three two pronged willow branches form the conical frame, attached to a circular branch with thin pieces of hide. The sides are an open, twilled weave of black and white goat hair. There is a long strap attached to one side of the frame, also woven black and white goat hair.

Beaded Panel758/1

Beaded panel with seven lower pointed segments. The main panel and segments are entirely beaded, with multicoloured designs on white ground. The main panel has human figures, other figures, elephant, bird, duck, tree and floral motifs. The pointed segments each have a single large figure. The figures are repeated on the outer segments; the middle figure is unique. All the edges have a red and green border. The upper edge has six brown hanging loops. The backside is lined with red cotton.

Red robe with roundels. The robe has a round neck, long wide sleeves and side opening with brass frog closures. Around the neck and cuffs is a border of printed pattern with the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune and peony motifs on dark blue ground, trimmed with gold braid. On the front and back are large roundels containing the same printed pattern on red ground. The bottom has mountain and wave motifs with symbols of wealth and fortune (pearl, scroll, rectangular gold ornament, circular gold ornament, swastika). The inside lining is blue damask silk containing floral motifs.

Horse CostumeEdz1838 a-b

Horse costume consisting of a paper mache mask (a) and rump (b). The mask has two brown vinyl ears, a green yarn mane, and a neck composed of fabric with a pink, yellow, brown and white floral pattern on a grey background. The rump has a green yarn tail and a skirt of the same fabric as the neck that runs along the sides and back. Both are built out of papier maché with a bamboo frame and are painted green with black and white eyes, red lips with white teeth, and bands of red on the rump.

Panel with a red ground embroidered with multicoloured and gold birds and flowers. Black borders embroidered with a floral motif in two hues of blue finish the sides and bottom edge and a band crosses the red panel near the top. The top edge of the panel is finished with light blue cotton and there is a loop at either side. The reverse is finished with off-white cotton.
