Kente Textile3473/4

Kente cloth composed of twenty-three hand woven cloth strips. The strips have been stitched together along the long edge and have embroidered designs overtop. Each strip has a multi-coloured checkered pattern; done in black, yellow, red, green and blue. The embroidered designs in the centre of the cloth consist of rectangular blocks, plain stripes, ladder-like stripes and geometric motifs; done in dark yellow, black, dark red, blue, green, and light orange. Left and right edges are covered entirely in embroidery, consisting of a rectangular block design. Blocks are filled with horizontal and vertical stripes, checkers, and parallelogram-like shapes; done in dark orange, dark red, dark yellow, green, yellow, dark blue and light pink. Tag attached to back bottom right corner.

Textile3473/3

Large ndop cloth composed of twenty panels sewn together with plant fibre. The indigo-dyed panels have been stitched together along the short edge and have off-white designs throughout. Designs are done in vertical bands and filled with geometric and linear motifs. Motifs include: abstract interlocking “X” shapes, dots, zigzags, concentric diamonds, segmented circles, grid-like patterns, and connected lines.

Mat3528/40

Sealskin mat with ookpik design. Round fur mat is divided into 8 pie-shaped sections in alternating dark brown and light brown fur. Each triangle has an ookpik shape sewn into it in the opposite colour fur (4 light brown sewn into dark brown, 4 dark brown birds in light brown fur). Each ookpik has felt eyes of black and yellow circles, a beige felt triangular nose, and 3-toed felt feet attached. There is a small sinew loop at the top for hanging.

Carved tupilaq (tupilak). Standing figure holding another head or mask in its hands. Main figure has a cone-shaped head with large teeth, including canines, in its open mouth, black inlaid eyes and large round nostrils. The mask face has black inlaid eyes, round nostrils and an open mouth showing only ten flat teeth, and small pointed ears.

Silver(?) bracelet consisting of eight circular charms connected with chains; the eighth charm is divided in half and secured together with a tab insert clasp. From left to right, charms depict: coin from 1882, scene of horse and tree, coin from 1882, guitar, coin from 1882, and scene of wagon, tree and house. Space between charm edges and designs have been cutout. The split charms have plain borders and curvlinear motifs in the corners.

Man and alpaca scene carved in relief on pendant; human-like figures wearing headdresses carved in relief along length of arms. Small curvilinear and dot motifs around edges of all components.
