Model kayak made of skin, stretched over an internal wooden structure (part a). Strip of antler(?), secured with wooden pegs, lines front keel. Ends of kayak are capped with oval-shaped pieces of ivory(?). Two sinew rigging lines in front of the high-walled cockpit, and one behind. Two ivory fasteners attached to each line. A double-bladed paddle (part b), spear (part c), harpoon (part d), harpoon line rest (part e), and two tools (parts f and g) are separate. The paddle, spear, harpoon and harpoon line rest are made of wood with antler blades (parts c and d) and reinforcement components (parts b, c and e). The two tools are made of antler. The largest (part f) is flat with a straight handle and a curved tapering end. The smallest tool (part g) has a rectangular handle, with triangular indentations along the bottom edge, and a thin pointed tip.
Long, thin scoop-like ladle made of antler. Shallow bowl has steep sides and curved ends. Handle is rectangular and angles upward. Two holes drilled through centre of handle with strip of hide looped through, forming a hanging tie. Bowl and back of handle have been polished; front of handle is rough, showing core of antler. Previous repair work below hide tie. Small metal plate has been riveted to front, covering a large crack visible from the back.
Sarong with sides sewn together, forming a rectangular tube skirt. Decorated with nineteen horizontal bands; assortment of coloured stripes, dashes and curvilinear motifs in between each band. Centre band is black with yellow stitches in middle. From each side of centre band the patterns are identical. From centre outward bands are: maroon with light brown rotating curvilinear motifs; black with burgundy geometric and curvilinear motifs; maroon with light brown rotating curvilinear motifs; maroon with light brown rotating curvilinear motifs; black with burgundy geometric and curvilinear motifs; maroon with light brown rotating curvilinear motifs; black with large floral, geometric and bird-like designs; maroon with light brown rotating curvilinear motifs; and black with light brown floral motifs, made of curvilinear design elements, in triangle patterns. Rows of rectangles, with cross-like protrusions, decorate left sides of bands. White tag on back.
Maroon sarong with fringe on ends. Top and bottom edges bordered by three patterned bands. Outer and inner bands have a repeating triangle motif, framed with curvilinear designs; centre band has a geometric motif. Bands are trimmed with plain stripes and rows of dots. Two large rectangles in centre of sarong. Repeating pattern of circles, filled with floral and linear motifs, throughout rectangles. Negative space, between circles and rectangle edges, is cross-shaped and filled with identical floral and linear designs. Borders on either end, consisting of two vertical bands. Inner band has a repeating triangle motif; outer band has repeating cross-like motif. All designs done in dark red-brown, dark orange and dark green. Fringe on ends are tied into bundles with plant fibre and pink thread.
Carved tupilaq (tupilak). Standing human-like figure with a pointed head, oval-shaped eyes and black inlay pupils. Numerous deeply incised lines across face. Nose is flat with deep flaring nostrils. Figure has wide open mouth, full of square teeth. Circular gaps between teeth and edges of mouth. Chin juts out. Long arms are leaning onto a square-shaped face with similar features. Figure’s legs and the head form base of sculpture. Vertical lines incised along hand edges, imitating fingers. Label adhered to back of figure.
Carved tupilaq (tupilak). Cone-like sculpture with a human-like face overtop of a walrus-like head. Legs of human and tusks of walrus form base. Human has circular eyes, with black inlay, and deep circular nostrils. Has a wide open mouth, full of square teeth. Sets of three incised lines across cheeks, nose, and overtop eyes, imitating eyebrows. Curved depression divides the two faces. Walrus has circular eyes, with black inlay, and small nostrils drilled into surface. Incised horizontal lines between eyes, two sets of diagonal lines extending from corners of eyes. Semi-circular line between nostrils and eyes, outlining snout. Small depression between nostrils. Entire back surface of sculpture is flat. Interior is hollow.
Stonecut print of eight hunters pulling a sled. Four hunters are holding onto the sides of the sled, two on either side, and three are pulling it forward with a single cord. The four holding the sled have their backs turned, three pulling are facing left. The eighth hunter is standing alone in the foreground. All are wearing parkas, with the hoods up, short pants, and tall boots. The clothing of the seven with the sled are plain black. The eighth hunter has white trim along the parka cuffs, and bottom edges of the parka and pants. Along the bottom edge of the print the title, technique, edition number, place made, date and artist signature are written in pencil. Signatures, in syllabics, with Cape Dorset Co-operative symbol stamped in bottom right corner. Canadian Eskimo Arts Council blind-embossed stamp below Cape Dorset Co-operative symbol. Decorated rectangular hip cloth (beti naek) with braided fringe on ends. Designs divided into three wide panels. Top and bottom panels are red and decorated with thin stripes. Stripes are an assortment of plain and dotted lines; done in blue-grey, dark blue, white, pink, yellow, dark green and dark purple. Centre panel is dark brown with white animal motifs across it. Dark orange geometric and linear designs throughout animals. Gap between designs in centre of panel, forming a horizontal dark brown line. Animals consist of birds, frogs(?) and reptiles (?). Small, yellow vertical stripes border top and bottom edges.
Sarong with warp threads uncut, forming a continuous looped textile. Decorated with four horizontal bands. Black stripes, with assortment of coloured lines, dashes and curvilinear motifs, in between each band. From top to bottom bands are: maroon with white cross-like designs inside repeating rectangles, rectangles made up of curvilinear motifs; maroon with white cross-like designs inside repeating rectangles, rectangles made up of curvilinear motifs; black with white oval-like shapes in centre and maroon triangles along edges, shapes filled with floral and curvilinear motifs; and maroon with white semi-circles along edges, made up of curvilinear motifs, and geometric motifs through the centre. Zigzag design decorates left side of all stripes and bands; top and bottom edges are black. White tag on back.
Maroon scarf (selendang) with fringe on ends. Eleven decorated bands across length. Centre band is dark red, trimmed with white stripes, with dark orange dashes through centre. From each side of centre band the patterns are identical. From centre outward bands are: maroon with repeating dark orange crosses, sun-like motifs, butterfly-like motifs, geometric and linear motifs; dark red, trimmed with dark blue stripes, with dark orange dashes through centre; dark orange triangles on maroon, trimmed with yellow stripe; dark red, trimmed with black stripes, with dark orange dashes through centre; and dark purple with dark blue vertical stripes. Fringe along left side is twisted; fringe along right is loose.
