Description

Blanket composed of a long piece of heavy off-white cotton fabric, stiffened from thick course cotton weft and warp. A series of bands, two wider brown with thinner blue and pink bands, run parallel to one edge along the entire fabric's length. One single brown stripe runs parallel, but very close to the edge. The ends are finished with a knotted fringe.

History Of Use

Hand woven by women for personal use or sale. This piece would ultimately have been stitched lengthwise to a matching piece. In colder areas, it would be used as a double-weight blanket by folding crosswise for bed covering or as extra padding over sleeping mat. Also given in pairs as wedding gifts.
