Description

One elbow-shaped dark brown wood piece cut from trunk and branch of tree. Smooth, long handle increases in outside diameter to pointed top from which thicker haft extends downwards at approximately forty-five degree angle. Haft's top surface cut away for blade to be lashed and nailed, both blade and lashing now missing. Two nails still present. Underside of haft's base end has large lashing projection.

History Of Use

Haft for elbow adze. Used to cut and shape cedar -- for roughing out piece. Cleaved with one or both hands in downward motion towards the body.
