Description
Pair of white moccasins with multicoloured floral quillwork on the toe cap and around the heel. Cuff-like piece that wraps around the heel is trimmed with cloth and ties together at the front, over the tongue. Lined with ecru-coloured cloth.
Narrative
The documentation from the Sisters of Saint Ann Museum says these were either acquired from Hudson Bay store in 1934 or elsewhere in 1912 by Mrs. Bessette.
Specific Techniques
Each moccasin is made out of three pieces of material- the sole and upper, the vamp and the cuff. The upper part of each moccasin was lined, for support, with parts of pages from a French language text. The embroidery and stitching goes through the paper.
