Description

Grey silk tsukesage (付け下げ) with lower floral pattern. The neck and centre opening are edged with a wide patterned band. The sleeves are short with hanging panels and an opening under the arms. The pattern has flower and line motifs in blue and white along the bottom hem and on the back of the sleeves. There is one family crest or kamon (家紋) in the shape of cherry blossoms known as kage zakura (陰山桜) embroidered on the back, below the collar. White coloured thread is used to make stitch marks from the bottom hem half way up the kimono and again on upper collar. The inner lining is cream silk and stops short of the bottom hem.

History Of Use

Tsukesage (付け下げ), a style of semi-formal kimono worn by women. Similar to hōmon-gi, a more formal visiting kimono in style. The tukesage patterns are upwards and are painted directly on the role of cloth.
