Wooden carnival mask. Dog head with sharp teeth and a burnt decoration; surmounted by antelope head with two long horns.

History Of Use

Masks like these were once used for boy’s coming of age ceremonies but are now worn by varied groups of community members including children and girls. Masquerades at Ousilão are not performed at Carnival (as they are at Lazarim or Podence), but on the Day of St Stephen, on Christmas Eve.
