Round, brown pottery piece with holes for draining. Has a rim. Object has been pieced back together.

History Of Use

Used as a strainer for traditional mustard in several West African communities. It is used to sift or wash the grains of néré (parkia biglobosa) or monkey fruit, which were previously mixed with sand and ash in the river, in order to allow for the extraction of the mustard.
