Description

End struck cortex spall. It is retouched. The material is fine-grained volcanic with medium-grained crystalline inclusions. It is light-grey in colour, with a slight green to yellow tone. It has light brown banding, which is waxy. It has a dull lustre and is opaque. Chemical weathering, large banding through the stone which is a different (waxier) texture. Retouch on distal edge. Some faint discolouration, dark grey, possibly fire-altered? Some excavation damage near proximal end and some on the distal edge. Retouch and point of impact are visible but heavily worn.

Provenance

West Culvert, ST1. Found at a depth of 175 cm. UTM = H20. ST1 was located in the west culvert. TJ noticed a soil change at the bottom of a trench at about 160cm and put in ST1 to identify the layer. ST1 was about 1x1m and the layer was 30cm deep.
