Rattle Basket3207/4 a-b

Rattle basket. Small basket has a recessed base decorated with encircling lines of green, from which rises a short straight wall. Weave is fine, with two lines of imbricated designs either side of midpoint consisting of stepped lines in faded shades of tan. Interior has corresponding lines of dark blue-grey and red. Lid fits over mouth of basket and is concave at centre with a large, squat finial. Design is of encircling lines of triangles and rectangles in light tan and orange. Set inside lid under the finial is a chamber containing material that rattles (likely beads?). Encirclilng rings of blue-grey and red decorate the underside of the lid.

Staff featuring figures that are carved in the form of coppers and geometric shapes; the middle u-shape appears to have a Chilkat or ancestor face on it. The handle has shredded cedar bark attached with fibre twine. Colours used are black and red.

Model PaddleA7459

Stylized design in colours of black and red on one side only of a small wood paddle. The main design of the blade consist of four outlined u forms that have designs within. The top two u forms nearer to the tip are black while the lower two u forms nearer to the handle are red. The top u form has the following: a red curve, a cross hatched black u form, and a red-outlined u form that has an eye form within. The next u form has the following: a red-outlined crescent shape, an oblong pointed shape that has diagonal black lines within, a central eye form, and a red-outlined split u that has black cross hatching in the spaces in between. The third u form is similar to the first except that there is a black curve line in between the cross hatched black u form and the red-outlined u form that has an eye form within. The last u form has the following: a black-outlined split u that has cross hatching within the lower portion. Along either edge of the blade there are three black curving shapes. The upper end of the handle has a diagonal black diamond shape with a horizontal line at either end. The handle has a horizontal rectangular finial.

Has a black ovoid in tapering oval eye, a pair of red u form nostrils, and an inverted red-outlined split u underneath with another sideways one at the top back of the head, and a three digit red claw underneath at the back that has a central black dot within a circle. The tip of the blade has a curving red shape. The handle has a central black ovoid in red ovoid with a triangular extension at either opposite end. The handle has a horizontal cylindrical finial.
