Storage BasketA4308

Rectangular cedar root basket consisting of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches); parallel slat foundation; total imbrication. Rawhide handles overcast with cedar root and beaded. Convex lid. The coiled work consists of nine rows of elongated (two slat) stitches; beaded basket; fully imbricated. Two rows of stepped pattern in crabapple and black cherry bark. Along the top are shapes in black and along bottom are the same shapes in red. The lid is convex and flanged, and decorated with partial beading. Alternating crabapple/black cherry creating six wide rows going width of lid. Hinges are rawhide. Rawhide tips on lid connect with loops on basket. Colour: tan.

Short, cylindrical basket (a) with a flat, fitted lid (b). Sides of basket are decorated with four pairs of three-man canoes in alternating red and black; lid features a circular, geometric design in black, purple and yellow. The base consists of plaiting with some coarse woven twining. The sides have wrapped twined weaving. Lid is held in place by a cedar flange attached around the upper rim of the basket.

Model Baby CarrierA4317

Small basketry cradle with interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction and overcast rim. Each side towards the head end, has four red stripes (2 stitches wide, 3 rows high). Each side has seven black stripes (1 row wide, 4 high) at the foot end. The top end has six black stripes and the tail end has two red modified stripes. There are also thin skin straps attached near the four corners of the cradle as handles.

Fully imbricated almost to base in cat-tail grass (?), with two vertical rows of wide continuous cross design, in dark cherry bark . The sides have single vertical band of alternating dark and red cherry bark triangles connected to form two plain diagonal stripes inside.

Burden BasketD1.370

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel splint base construction. Most of basket is fully imbricated in cat-tail grass (?), with outline of square in red and dark cherry bark, with triangle on bottom pointing to center, with two smaller triangles in dark cherry bark. Lower quarter of basket is partially beaded in in cat-tail grass. One row of imbrication in cat-tail grass (?) on bottom.
