Bag1060/11

A light brown hide rectangular bag with a fringe along the bottom and a curved jagged edged along the top which has a design of perforated holes in two rows. The sides are edged with cream-coloured and brown print fabric. One side has a dyed quill geometric design in green, yellow, white, blue, purple, and pink. The other side has a very faded quill design of light pink-purple and light blue flowers with green and orange leaves on an off-white background.

Pouch1060/10

Round beaded pouch that tapers slightly at the opening. Opening has scalloped skin flap and two skin drawstrings. Pouch is decorated with purple, red, and orange beads in the shape of a flower on a white beaded background. There are evenly-spaced rectangular-shaped sections of purple beads around the perimeter of the piece on the front. On the side, there are alternating black, and clear coloured beads around the perimeter. There is a vertical line of beaded blue, yellow, red, purple, and pink section running down the centre of the back of the pouch. On either side of the lone, there is a split leaf-like orange, red, and blue beaded pattern.

Dish1060/59

A deep oval wood dish with pointed ends and four conical legs with a double-side-by-side triangular protrusion through which a fibre rope loops around the middle. Inside the dish there are two pieces of tape, one reads "CEREMONIAL DISH", the other reads "FIJI".

Bottle1060/56

A cylindrical reddish-brown skin bottle with three circular protrusions around the top, middle, and bottom which are decorated with bark weave in a diagonal line pattern. Each of the two spaces in between these three circular protrusions has a set of two horizontal black lines painted at each edge. The top of the bottle is semi-round with a triple black line semi-circle design and tapers to a neck which has strands of skin flowing down from the rim. The round lid which also has a bark weave in a diagonal line pattern is attached to the bottle side from the top of the lid.

Whisk1060/69

A long cylindrical skin handle with circular protrusions all around that have some plant fibre weaving decoration. The top end of the handle has a looped skin band painted with red dots connected by a brown zig zag line. The bottom end of the handle flares out with skin strands from which grey hair flows down.

A coiled round beaded belt with four cylindrical rows stitched together. The design consists of alternating rectangles of blue, black, and red beads with white beads in between. It is beaded on the outside. One end has a loop of blue, red, and white beads with a conical metal button while the other end has just a conical metal button.

Bottle1060/58 a-b

Long and narrow bottle covered in red-brown leather (part a). Body of bottle has four distinct ridges that are decorated with light brown, dark brown, and red coloured woven leaf bands. Neck of bottle is decorated with brown fringe. Large leather label on body with inscription in bold letters says: "LEATHER ENCASED BOTTLE GAMBIA-AFRICA." Part b is the cork stopper to the bottle, has a decorative band of woven leaf fibres around the top and is attached to a long strip of leather.

Mask1060/81

A large wood mask with a flat base carved with a relatively flat circular face at the centre. The base is painted blue and has three cylindrical wood pegs pointing outward and equally spaced from each other along the top. Three surrounding curved wood sticks are attached to the mask along the sides. Nine white feathers are attached all around the mask through the three surrounding curved wood sticks. The face is painted white with two black semi-ovals for the hair line. Downward curving slits indicate the eyes, around which are painted black glasses. The nose is long and flat with one large hole for the nostrils and two black spots below. There is a upward curving slit for the open mouth. Black paint is used to outline the goatee. Bands of skin are at the sides of the face. A label at the top states "INDIAN DANCE MASK / YUKON 1910."

Semicircular fan of folded leaf with triangular decoration in grass around edge. Handle is made of the branch of the leaf with the leaf bent around the end and then tied off at one edge to length of handle with two loops of grass.

Axe Head1060/60

Flat stone axe head that has a wide edge at one end and tapers to a rounded point at the other. Surface is polished smooth. An adhesive label on one face says, "Stone axe Fiji".
