TrayNd575

Tray composed of coiled round dish with handle and flat rim. The tray has four pointed spout-like indents along the edge. The rim and handle edges are braided. The handle is made of two separate two-coil strands which are tied together along the middle of the handle. The base of the tray is coiled and has circular bands of imbrication in red and black cherry bark and dyed grass. The tray has one coil foot which is beaded with black cherry bark.

Canoe shaped coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with single coil seat inside the canoe; has small prow with single coil loop extending from below prow to base of basket. The top rim is braided with grass. Imbricated pattern in three rows of three stitch intervals, alternating between red and black cherry bark.

Round coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with two-coil foot as base. Imbricated geometric zig-zag design outlined in dark cherry bark, with bear grass next and red cherry bark in the middle. Crosses appear at each peak; lower peaks have dark cherry bark crosses with bear grass center, and upper peaks have red cherry bark center. Foot is beaded with red and black cherry bark.

Coiled cylindrical basket (with bifurcated stitches) with lid (part b). Top coil on rim of basket cut. Imbrication in black and red cherry bark and grass. Design is geometrical, two row horizontal band with 4 little crosses below band. Bottom of basket imbricated with arrow tip shapes with crosses at tips, alternating red or dark cherry bark, each with bear grass at tip. Coil on rim of lid also cut. Imbrication on lid is is two row band as on basket. Lid has coiled knob at center.

Work BasketNd604

Work basket formed by coiled weaving with a slat bottom and a two-row coil foot at base. The foot is imbricated with red and black cherry bark and off-white grass. Geometrical cross and diamond designs are imbricated on the sides of the basket. One three-coil carrying handle at one of the narrower ends.

Coiled burden basket in a traditional trapezoidal shape. Beaded cherry bark in bands decorate the basket. Back side of the basket has two hide loops to which a denim fabric carrying scrap is attached.

Fishing creel compoased of coiled cedar root weaving. The basket has an irregular rectangular base, a flat back, three sides that have shoulders narrowing and slanting diagonally up to the top back over a trapezoidal lid with a trapezoidal hole at the centre. Five red and black cherry bark imbricated diamonds decorate three sides. Two hide loops sewn onto two back corners. Lid attached to back with two hide strips. Four imbricated diamond shapes decorate the lid.

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Elongated watch-spring construction. Cotton string attached to rim of one corner, jute cord attached to rim of 3 other corners. Remnants of hide loops, probably for carrying, also attached to long sides of basket. Imbricated rows of alternating red and dark cherry bark and bear grass.

Fishing creel basket (a) with lid (b). The basket is constructed of coil weaving with an irregular curved rectangular base, concave back and convex sides creating protruding shoulder in lower third of basket narrowing to rounded rectangular mouth. Decorated with a design in red and black cherry bark and off-white bear grass imbrication forming a series of diamonds. Has a hide strap attached to the two back corners. The lid is attached to the basket with two hide ties and is imbricated with a repeated triangle design fanning out from the central hole.
