Canoe BailerNb3.1455

Canoe bailer with a curved rectangular base made from a piece of cedar bark supported with wood strips that have been inserted into the bark, the ends pleated and bent perpendicular to the base into a triangular shape, and the gathered ends bound with string to a length of wood that extends between them to serve as a handle.

A brown slightly flared upward cylindrical basket (part a) with a lid (part b). There are four equally spaced alternating green, and brown and orange diagonal stepped patterns around the side of the basket (part a). There are three horizontal rows of brown, orange, and brown around the bottom of the basket (part a). The side of the basket tapers into an upright rim. The lid (part b) has a slightly flared upward cylindrical circular brown knob surrounded by three brown, orange, and brown circle lines with four equally spaced alternating green, and brown and orange diagonal stepped patterns around it. There are three horizontal rows of brown, orange, and brown around the side of the lid (part b).

Birch bark container with linear, triangular designs (horizontal) around the outside. Reddish pigment is on the background of the outside of the piece and the rim has staggered overstitches. On both sides of the outside, larger triangular stitches (vertical) attache the birch bark pieces together.
