Inuit artist known mainly for his soapstone carvings. Born in the western Arctic, for the first eight years of his life he lived nomadically with his parents, travelling throughout the Mackenzie Delta. At the age of eight he was sent to a mission boarding school for Inuit children. As a boy he loved to draw and was encouraged by his teachers to make tools and toys. In 1971 he enrolled at the University of Alaska where he studied sculpture, silver-smithing and printmaking under Ronald Senugetuk. After he had completed a number of pieces in the years that followed, he took them to Toronto where his unique talent was discovered in 1977 by Jack Pollock who featured Anghik's work in his Gallery in a solo show that sold out. Anghik also creates graphics and jewellery, and current resides in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia.
