Utagawa Kunisada (歌川国貞)1786-1865) (aka Utagawa Toyokuni III 三代歌川豊国) was a Japanese artist, who was one of the most prolific and successful artists of woodblock prints in nineteenth century Japan. Born Sumiza Shōgorō (角田庄五朗) in Tokyo (then Edo), he was called Sumida
Shōzō (角田庄蔵) and had several pseudonyms including Utagawa Kunisada and Toyokuni III. He entered the school of Utagawa Toyokuni I around 1800 as an apprentice.Born: 1786
