Knowledge shared by institutions

Peter Nzuki worked for some years in the National Museum of Kenya, helping to document artifacts, and there he became reacquainted with the traditional material culture of his people. Intrigued by the earlier forms of calabash design, he decided to try to revive the art form, though he was not a trained carver. In 1974 he gained international recognition when his calabash works were included in the Field Museum of Natural History exhibition “Art in Africa Today.” His work can be found in galleries and museums in Kenya and other parts of the world.
