Edward James Walkus was a high ranking chief of the Gwa'sala nation from Takus. He inherited his chieftainship from his father Johnny Wa'kas. Ed was initiated as a Hamatsa and was known as a composer of songs for the Bighouse.
Simon Walkus Sr. was a hereditory chief of the Wuikinuxv in K̓ítit. His name, ˇXvùsemdaas Waakas, means “First to drink at the head of the Great River.
