Tony Hunt was born in Alert Bay but grew up in Fort Rupert. He was taught by his grandfather Mungo Martin and worked with his father Henry Hunt at the then the Provincial Museum. He opened his own gallery, Arts of the Raven, in Victoria in 1970. Tony has also had an important influence as a teacher through the Arts of the Raven Workshop, at 'Ksan and at Camosun College.
