Trained in carving by his father Chief Walter Harris. Graduated from Hazelton Secondary School in 1979 and entered the Northwest School of Indian Art at 'Ksan in 1982. In 1989 he decided to devote himself full-time to carving. He helped his father carve the 30' pole which stands on the Museum grounds, and he and his father carved one of the houseposts inside the First Nations House of Learning's Longhouse at UBC.
