Stan Greene was born in Mission, BC. His mother was Sto:lo and his father Semiahmoo. Stan now lives at Cultus Lake with his family. He began carving at the age of 13, using his grandfather's tools. He began carving professionally in 1976 when he studied with Vernon Stephens, Ken Mowatt, and Murphy Green at the Kitanmax School of Northwest Coast Art at 'Ksan. He often uses Salish motifs such as the spindle whorl.
