Jacobs was a Tlingit artist of the Khoosk’eidí Clan, Xaas Hít (Cow House); his Tlingit names were Yéilnaawú and Kíchxhaak. Jacobs was a fairly prolific producer of silver jewelry, operating a shop in Sitka, Alaska.
