Andrew Micki was born in 1918 near the Kazan River. He died in 1983 in Arviat (Eskimo Point). His wife, Mary Kahootsuak Miki was an artist, as was his son, Silas Ilungiayuk Miki (b. 1944). Miki moved to Eskimo Point in 1959, and on to Rankin Inlet, then to Whale Cove, and then back to Eskimo Point in 1969. Although Miki had been carving since he was young, it was in Arviat where his work became popular. A prolific carver, he is most famous for carving two-dimensional animals admired for their naturalism. E1-436 was his artist identification number. [Katilvik].
