Angélica Delfina Vásquez Cruz was born in Santa Maria Atzompa. She was taught how to make things out of clay, by her parents, starting at the age of 4. She is inspired by the mythology, culture and folklore of her home state, Oaxaca. In 2009 she received the National Arts and Sciences Award, in the "Arts and Traditions" category. She works with different materials including ‘pastillaje’ (a mixture of stones, clay and earth) and coloured 'engobes' in clay.
