Jonasie Faber was born in 1944 in Qaqortoq, Greenland. As a child his family relocated to Denmark; starting at the age of 15 he spent several years at sea, eventually becoming a navigator. He returned to Greenland as a Harbor Master. After a couple years he set out for Canada, arriving in BC in 1974, where he established a business importing Greenlandic art, and then began making and selling his own Inuit art.
