Zoltan S. Kiss was born in Menfocsanak, Hungary in 1924. He studied architecture at the Technical University in Budapest, but in 1944 he fled to Germany, and then in 1945 to Denmark. He stayed in Denmark for five years working as a potter. In 1950 he emigrated to West Vancouver, BC. and attended UBC, where he completed a degree in architecture. Kiss worked for Thompson Berwick Pratt from 1953 to 1962, then started his own practice. Kiss designed the Academic Quadrangle at SFU, incorporating his ideas and innovations with Arthur Erickson's concept for the university. Zoltan is also recognized as a potter and a painter.
