Jimmy (Mimurana) Jacobson was bom on Baillie Island; his parents were Fred Jacobson (Russian) and Vera Kigyun (Inuit, from Kittigaryuit). His father had arrived on a whaling ship that became stranded at Baillie Island (his name was Alexander, but he changed it when he became a Canadian citizen). Jimmy was adopted by Nellie Eyakuk and Philip Nauyak; they lived at Herschel Island, and also at Niaqulik, until the death of his adopted parents during the epidemic of 1928. Jimmy spent five years at the residential school in Hay River. He then went to Aklavik to live with his father, where he stayed for a few years. Jimmy later married Bella Williams; they raised twelve children and lived in Tuktoyaktuk.
