Itō Shinsui (伊東深水) (1898–1972) was a Japanese artist born in Tokyo. His real name was Ito Hajime (伊藤一). He produced nihonga paintings and ukiyo-e woodblock prints, and was also part of the shin-hanga (new prints) art movement. He is known for his bijin-ga (“beautiful person picture”), but also produced landscape works, which influenced Kawase Hasui (川瀬 巴水). He worked as an apprentice in a print shop at a young age. He studied nihonga painting with Nakayama Shūko (中山秋湖), and later with Kaburaki Kiyotaka (鏑木清方). He was given his gō/gagō (号/雅号) or artist name, Shinsui (深水) by Kaburaki.
