Tosa Mitsuoki (土佐光起; November 21, 1617 – November 14, 1691) was a Japanese artist from the Edo period. His real family name was Fujiwara (藤原), and was called Fujimanmaru (藤満丸) as a child. He was the son of the artist Tosa Mitsunori (土佐光則) and succeeded his father as head of the Tosa school (土佐派) of yamato-e paintings. Born in Osaka, he moved to Kyoto when he was eighteen. In 1654, when he was thirty-eight, Mitsuoki earned the title, Head of the court painting bureau, and restored fortune to his Tosa family school. He also studied the techniques of rival schools, such as the Kano school.
