Nakanishi Yoshio (中西義男) (1899-1965) was a woodblock print artist from Japan. Born in Nagano Prefecture, he first helped out his family business of lacquer coating, but after meeting artist Ibaragi Inokichi (茨木猪之吉) who regularly visited his home village, he decided to become an artist himself. By the invitation from Ibaragi, he studied at the Taihei yōga kenkyū-sho. He returned to his home in 1919 and worked as a temporary elementary school teacher and later worked at a school in Fukushima Prefecture. In 1925, he participated in the first summer school by Nihon nōmin bijutsu kenkyū-sho (日本農民美術研究所; Japan Peasant Art Institute) founded by Yamamoto Kanae (山本鼎). He studied landscape painting and woodblock print there. He retired from teaching and officially joined the art institute.
