Kaizawa Mamoru (貝澤守; born 1965) is an Ainu artist from Nibutani, Hokkaidō, Japan. He grew up observing the carvings produced by his late father Kaizawa Moriyuki (貝澤守幸;1935 –1977). When Moriyuki passed away, Mamoru was twelve years old. After graduating from high school, Mamoru worked in Sapporo city for a while, but returned home when he was twenty-one, and since then, he has been creating wood carvings including Nibutani-ita. His works have been exhibited at various locations including the National Ainu Museum, Shiraoi, Hokkaido and the Portland Japanese Garden in the US. He has been working hard to train younger generations and to pass on the traditional knowledge and techniques to them.
