Knowledge shared by institutions
Simon Charlie was mainly a self-taught artist who began carving in his early teens mostly as a hobby. Charlie worked with traditionally trained artist Henry Hunt at the British Columbia Provincial Museum. Amongst his traditionally carved smaller objects, he has carved several large sculptures which can be seen at sites along highways on southern Vancouver Island. He was awarded the Order of British Columbia in 2001 and his work has been collected around the world.
