Cynthia Louie participated in one of the early weaving schools at Musqueam, and identifies Rita Louis, Barb Marks-McCoy and Wendy John as her primary teachers. In the early 1990s, Cynthia returned to school to study Early Childhood Education. In 1990 she stated that she was finishing a weaving about once every two weeks, however, these weavings were predominantly made for family and friends - some as commissioned pieces. Cynthia spins and dyes all her own wool and notes that she doesn't plan her weavings, but graphs them out afterwards. She identified a weaving done for the church podium at Chehalis as one of her larger pieces.
