Oxford-educated anthropologist with the National Museum of Canada (now the CMC), Ottawa. He collected for the National Museum of Canada, as well as the Royal Ontarion Museum. In 1947 he scouted out and helped collect some poles and large carvings for the UBC Committee on Totem Poles. These eventually came to the UBC Museum of Anthropology. He also wrote a two volume book set called "Totem Poles".
