Knowledge shared by institutions

James Hayes is a historian who is well-known for his five books and many articles on Hong Kong history and culture. He was a district officer in the Hong Kong government for many years, most recently as District Officer Tsuen Wan, and then Town Manager there during its period of very rapid development. He is greatly respected by the local people there and elsewhere in Hong Kong. He is now retired and living in Australia, but continuing to be an active and productive scholar. He believes firmly in the importance of collecting material culture as evidence of ways of life that have disappeared.
