Born near Back River, William Noah is a former territory level politician, and artist. His mother was Jessie Oonark, who was a celebrated print and textile artist. Noah began drawing in 1963 and took up printmaking in 1971. He has served as president of Sanavik Co-operative, chair of Canadian Arctic Producers and as manager of the Jessie Oonark Arts and Crafts Centre in Baker Lake. He also worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, as well as serving as a member of the Northwest Territories’ Legislative Assembly from 1979-82.
