Knowledge shared by institutions

Marion Louie was a Nuu-chah-nulth basket weaver. “She learned basketry by undoing her grandmother’s baskets and then putting them back together, until she learned how each item was constructed.” (quote from "HuupuKwanum tupaat: Out of the Mist; Treasures of the Nuu-chah-nulth Chiefs" by Martha Black, 1999.) Marion attended Christie Indian Residential School for many years and, although it was not a good experience, she learned knitting and crocheting there, which she also continued with for the rest of her life.
