Margaret L. Collins was born on Bowen Island on December 21, 1910. She was a teacher who taught at Chilco, Lasquiti Island, Claydon Bay, Bowen Island, Surrey and Pemberton schools. She was a teacher at Pemberton Middle School when she met Slim (Thord) Fougberg; they married on Bowen Island in 1939. After WWII they returned to Pemberton where she continued teaching in Pemberton Secondary School, and was instrumental in enrolling First Nations students from the Mt. Curry Band. She retired from teaching in the early 70's. In 1977 she collaborated in writing and publishing Pemberton, the History of a Settlement. The couple was instrumental in co-founding the Pemberton & District Museum and Archives in 1982; the museum opened in what is now known as Fougberg Park in Pemberton. In 1986, they were the recipients of an Award of Merit from the BC Museums Association. The couple moved back to Bowen Island in 1990.
