Miriam Marealik Qiyuk is one of the eight surviving children of artist Jessie Oonark, from Baker Lake. Qiyuk grew up in traditional camp lifestyle and moved to Baker Lake in her twenties. In the early 1960s she began to make wall-hangings and sculptures, but due to an allergic reaction to wool, she had to discontinue producing textile works around 1980.
