Tseshaht (Nuu-chah-nulth) artist and elder who "first started carving in 1963, seriously carving in 1966." Gus carved poles, plaques, paddles, masks and speaker staffs, selling them to stores in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Qualicum and Seattle or to people who came to her door. She also branched out to painting and silkscreen prints, and has worked on long houses, in Tsheshaht and for the Canadian Museum of Civilization. (From artist and the Vancouver Public Art Registry)
