By 2010, Joe Martin had carved over 30 canoes, many of which are used for traveling up and down the coast while others have been displayed in both local and international museums. Adapting new tools to old traditions, Martin continues Nuu-chah-nulth technologies and principles in new ways. In October of 2006, Joe Martin replaced two missing canoe seats and to add a new prow to replace a missing wolf's head that had previously been attached to a dugout canoe in MOA's great hall (Cat # Nb11.353).
