Sid Leary came to Canada in early childhood. He was elected as an MLA in 1924, and represented the Kaslo-Slocan constituency for 16 years. He was the Minister of Public Works for three years. He served in the army and became a Captain during World War I. During the war he went to Cyprus where he served as a government advisor in army operations in 1917 and 1918. He made his collection of antiquities during this time.
