Knowledge shared by institutions

Abaya Martin's first marriage, c. 1910, was to David Hunt of Fort Rupert, grandson of Mary Ebbets Hunt, a Tlingit woman from Tongass, Alaska. After his death, Abaya married Mungo Martin, also of Fort Rupert. She knew ceremonial lore and procedures and how to weave cedar bark clothing and baskets. She was constantly busy with her hands, weaving, knitting, embroidering or crocheting. She had lost her son at sea, and died soon after her husband.
