Knowledge shared by institutions

Ruth Jones is an artist who works both in the medium of paint and of fine hand woven tapestry. Her studio is in Vancouver, Canada. In addition to developing her unique line of work, she creates site-specific imagery on commission for private, public and corporate clients. This involves meetings to learn about the uses of the intended space, production of idea sketches, and discussion with the client about the intended impact of the work. Her client list includes IBM Head office in White Plains, New York, the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, and the Governor-General's residence in Ottawa. As an instructor, Ruth has taught the finer points of historic European tapestry technique to graduates of various textile programs. Her students have gone on to win awards for their own work or to teach. Her work has also inspired other artists to explore the medium of tapestry. Ruth is a member of the American Tapestry Alliance, the Canadian Tapestry Network and of S.T.A.R.S., a British Columbia-based tapestry initiatives organization. Following degrees in Classical Studies from the University of British Columbia and in Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute, she completed the graduate program in Tapestry Design and Production from the National School for Decorative Arts in Aubusson, France.
