Born in Maramba Village, Plasios Asapi is one of the most eminent carvers in Papua New Guinea. He received his early training from his grandfather Mangon and has been carving for more than thirty years. He now resides in Maramba Village, but spent several years working as an artist in Madang.His masterful carvings of garamut drums, distinguished by the intricately carved finials traditional to Maramba village are unsurpassed. His works are in collections in Australia, France, Germany, Canada and the United States, including the Daetz- Centrum Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Germany.
